Submission of Application

All candidates applying for admission to the First Year MBBS against open merit seats and all other categories of seats are required to pass the Entry Test with a minimum score of 40% otherwise they will not be considered for admission. The procedure is as follows:
Applications for Entry Test to First Year M.B.B.S Class will be invited by an advertisement through the press. The application can be submitted to any Government medical college in Punjab by the date specified in the advertisement. Any application received by post or in person after the due date and time shall not be entertained/considered.

A. Eligibility:

a). Applicants having domicile of Punjab and Federal Capital Area shall be eligible to apply for admission in medical colleges in Punjab.
b). i) Applicants must have secured 60% unadjusted marks in F.Sc. (Pre-Medical) or equivalent examination (without Hafiz-e-Quran marks),

OR
a higher examination of Rawalpindi Medical College, Pakistan in Pakistan (B.Sc. Biological Sciences) provided he/she has passed the Intermediate Science Examination (Pre-Medical) securing at least 60% unadjusted marks.

ii) The Priority to Medical colleges will be as under:-

First Priority: F.Sc (Pre-Medical) marks 60% or more.

Second Priority: B.Sc (Biological Science) marks 60% or more.

c). Applicants with any other Examination of foreign Rawalpindi Medical College, Pakistan/Examining Body, which in scope and standard is found equivalent to the Intermediate Sciences Examination (Pre-Medical Group of a Pakistani Rawalpindi Medical College, Pakistan / Board), may apply. An equivalence certificate from Inter- Board Chairmen Committee (IBCC) Islamabad will be provided by the applicant.

d). The candidate should be under 25 years on the last date of submission of application.

e). The eligibility requirements for the overseas Pakistanis applying for admission on open merit are the same as those from within Pakistan. They should pass the Entry Test or SAT I and SAT II or MCAT as mentioned below.

f) Applicants seeking admission to the first year MBBS/BDS who are resident of FATA should take the entry test either for Punjab or NWFP.

g) Applicants from Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Northern Areas for admission to first year MBBS/BDS should take the entry test of the Punjab.

h) Applicants seeking admission to the Ist year MBBS/ BDS who are resident abroad and are unable to take the Entry Test in Pakistan are required to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT I) and SAT II or the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) as applicable.

A minimum acceptable requirement for SAT I is a combined score of 1150 on the recentered scale and for SAT II a score of 700. The SAT II score will be accepted only if Physics, Biology, Chemistry and English have been the subjects of examination.

For the MCAT, a combined score of 24 will be acceptable.

i). The SAT I and SAT II are conducted by the Educational Testing Services of the College Board, SAT programme, PO Box 6200, Princeton, NJ 085410 6200, USA. The MCAT is conducted by the American College Testing Services P.O. Box 451, Iowa City, Iowa 52242. The SATs and the MCAT is administered in many countries. Information about the dates of the test may be obtained from the centres where it is conducted or directly from the address stated above.

j). The last date to receive the SAT I and the MCAT in the Admission Office is October 31, 2000. These test scores must be received directly form the relevant testing services or from the applicant in person. Applications without Sat I and SAT II or MCAT score will not be considered after the due dates.

k). The SAT I, SAT II and MCAT scores are valid for a period of two years only from the date of the relevant test.

B. PROCEDURE:
1. The admission packet may be obtained from the offices of the Principals of the following Medical Colleges during office hours on payment of Rs.300/-:-

a) King Edward Medical College, Lahore . (MBBS)
b) Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore. (MBBS)

c) Nishtar Medical College, Multan (MBBS, BDS)

d) Quaid-I-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur. (MBBS)

e) Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad. (MBBS)

f) Rawalpindi Medical College, Rawalpindi, (MBBS)

g) Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore. (MBBS)

h) de' Montmorency College of Dentistry, Lahore. (BDS)

2. The admission packet will include two admit cards, two personal data sheets, admission application form and prospectus (including appendix I, II)

3. Schedule:
Admission packet availability October 7 to October 14, 2000
Submission of Personal Data Sheet October 7 to October 14, 2000
and admit cards for entry test (at KEMC, Lahore)
Date of Entry Test October 22, 2000
Declaration of Entry Test result November 04, 2000
Merit list of top 2000 candidates November 04, 2000
Submission of applications upto November 11, 2000
Selection Lists November 18, 2000
4. Candidates applying for Entry Test will submit their Admit Cards (both), personal data sheets (both) duly completed along with attested photostat copies of F.Sc & Domicile certificates and Rs.700.00 in cash as Entry Test fee, by due date and time at the following places, by hand:-

a) King Edward Medical College, Lahore.
b) Rawalpindi Medical College, Rawalpindi.
c) Nishtar Medical College, Multan.
d) Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad.
e) Quaid-i-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur.
5. Both the personal data sheets and one admit card will be retained by the admission officer, but one admit card (marked ORIGINAL) duly stamped will be returned to the applicant. This admit card is a very important document and will have to be produced by the candidate at the time of the Entry Test.

(Warning: a) Duplicate admit card will not be issued)

b) No applications for admit card will be accepted after the date notified in press.

6. The Entry Test will be held according to notified date and time and the place, indicated on the admit card.

7. The result of the Entry Test will be declared according to the notified date. The result will be notified in the major national newspapers. It will also be displayed on the notice boards of all the medical and dental colleges of Punjab.

8. The applicants are required to complete their admission application (Appendix I & II) with all the required documents so that as soon as the result of the Entry Test is declared, the applications are ready for submission.

9. Only the top 2000 candidates will be asked to submit admission applications.

by November 11, 2000 in person, TCS or by registered mail. No application will be entertained after the expiry of last date.
10. The list of selected candidates will be notified and displayed in the offices of the all the Medical and Dental Colleges of Punjab respectively..

11. No application for admission will be considered unless fully and completely made out on the prescribed admission application forms (Appendix I & II) by the candidate in his/her own handwriting.

12. Revision of result or improvement of marks by the Board after the finalization of merit list shall not affect the merit list of admissions of the current year in any way.

13. Any change in the schedule of the Entry Test/ Admission procedure will be notified in the major national daily newspapers

14. All applications must be accompanied with photostat copies of the following certificates in duplicate duly attested by a Grade 17 officer or above (the stamp affixed must be official name stamp of the officer):

Matriculation certificate/Senior Cambridge Certificate.

Birth certificate, if date of birth is not mentioned.

Provisional/Character certificate of F.Sc. of the college last attended.

Copies of detailed marks certificate of F.Sc. of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

Entry Test marks Sheet.

Domicile certificate from the Deputy Commissioner concerned. Domicile certificate once submitted with the application cannot be changed and shall be considered as final. Any candidate found to have domicile of more than one place will be disqualified for admission in medical colleges.

Four attested photographs (passport size) of the candidate.

Note-I (a). Original certificates shall be produced by the candidate at At the time of submission of application, the applicant will submit an affidavit (appendix I).
Note-II A certificate from the Principal of the college concerned of having passed the F.Sc. (pre-medical) examination is required on the prescribed form included in the application form (Appendix II).

15. A candidate previously admitted in any medical college of the country cannot apply for fresh admission. He/she should apply for re-admission in the college previously admitted.

16. Application for admission along with the documents once received in the college office shall not be returned. If, however, a candidate has submitted original documents with his/her application he/she may withdraw the same after the admission is completed.

17. Selection: The candidates will be selected by the Admission Board comprising the Principals of all Government Medical Colleges of Punjab including Fatima Jinnah Medical College. The Principal King Edward Medical College, Lahore will be the Chairman of the Admission Board and preside over the interviews and selection meetings. The decisions of Admission Board in respect of selections and admission shall be final.

18. If considered necessary, the Admission Board may call any candidate for interview at his/her own expense.

19. The Admission Board may refuse admission to any candidate who seems, for reasons to be recorded in each case at the time of interview, to be unsuitable or unlikely to become a good doctor. In case such a candidate is admitted, he can be struck off the rolls of the college, after issuing a notice to him to that effect.

20. i) Such candidates whose particulars e.g. marks, certificates or any other document submitted with the application form are found to be incorrect or wrong or whose authentication is doubtful will be struck off the college roll, even if they have been admitted. A student can be removed from the course of his/her study if incorrect or wrong data have been submitted by such a student, which formed the basis of his admission.

ii). The Principal also reserves the right to forfeit fees and dues paid by such a candidate.

iii) A candidate making any false statement is liable to any legal action, which the government may deem fit to take. Similarly, father/guardian making any false statement is liable to legal action.

iv) Any candidate detected to have submitted forged certificates or fake documents with the application form shall be permanently debarred from admission to any medical/dental college in Punjab.

C. RULES FOR WORKING OUT MERIT OF CANDIDATES:
The following marks shall be added in the F.Sc. marks of the candidates in order to prepare the final merit list:-'

1). Twenty (20) marks will be added for being a Muslim Hafiz-e-Quran, subject to verification of the same by a committee constituted, by the Admission Board.


Note I:- According to the aggregate marks of F.Sc. and Entry Test, whenever two and more than two candidates are bracketed, the one senior in age will be given preference to the other for the purpose of admission.

Note II:- Students obtaining less than 60% marks in F.Sc. examination shall not be elighble for admission.

D. FINAL SELECTION/ MERIT LIST:

The pass percentage in the Entry Test is 40%. Any candidate who fails to qualify the Entry Test will not be considered for admission.

The weightage for the preparation of the final merit list for the session 2000-2001 will be as follows; -

Adjusted marks in F.Sc. or equivalent examination .. 50% weightage

Entry Test marks.....…….............................................50% weightage

All calculations will be in percentage up to two decimal points.

Formula for determination of merit is as under:

E. EQUIVALENCE AND MERIT CALCULATION OF FOREIGN QUALIFIED CANDIDATES:
Candidates belonging to The Province of Punjab and Federal Capital Area who possess qualification equal to intermediate (Pre-Medical) in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English can apply for admission. The equivalence of qualification and calculation of marks of the candidates holding qualification other than F.Sc (pre-medical) will be determined by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen, Islamabad. (IBCC)

The Chairman Admission Board reserves the rights to scrutinize the eduational documents of such applicants. In case any discrepency is found with regard to the eligibility/ calculation of marks, of any applicant, he will refer the matter back to the IBCC for reconsideration in the light of discrepency.
